Need Help Finding Motivation? Five Questions to Get Your Mojo Back
Do you need help finding motivation? Ever feel like the plug was pulled on your bubble bath? Do you wonder where your mojo went or if you ever had any?
Yep, I know. Me too. Life has been super crazy lately with stress for dessert. So how do you get your mojo back? Here are 5 questions to help get you started:
What am I really good at?
What do you do that doesn't seem like work to you? What do your friends always complement you about? If you aren't sure what you are good at, get the input of friends and co-workers. When needs, projects or events come up, what do these people say that you are the perfect fit for in a certain responsibility?Finding motivation means focusing on doing more of the things you are really good at.
Who do I enjoy hanging out with?
Identify the people who enrich your life and spend more time with them. Then do the opposite—identify those who drain your energy and spend less time with them. (Yes, you have my permission to do this. Give yourself permission to not be the perfect always-there-for-you person.)
What would I do if I had plenty of time to do it?
What projects or activities feed your passion and give you energy? You know what I mean—the thing you are doing when you suddenly realize that hours have passed and you haven't even noticed. Finding motivation means doing the things that give you pleasure.Cut activities elsewhere in order to add these mojo building pursuits into your life.
What or who is energizing your life right now?
I know, you probably answered "nothing," "the energizer bunny," or "chocolate." But really, how much time have you spend with the One who has placed his resurrection life within you?Reconnect with Jesus and let his living water refresh you.
Where have I misplaced my personal boundaries?
Revisit your personal boundaries and see where you have let the craziness of life push your boundaries aside. (The above questions should give you a few clues.)Where do you need to adjust your boundaries so your mojo gets fed?Sit down, grab an index card or note paper, and write out the choices you are committing to—then put feet to your words. (It helps to post the card on your bathroom mirror where you can review it each morning.)Finally, go take that bubble bath. You deserve it.Now it's your turn: What needs to change in your life to get your mojo back? Leave a comment—I'd love to hear from you.
