10 Fun Facts From Finland

Ten fun facts from Finland: Since we head home today for California, I thought I share some quick, fun facts about Finland that I've experienced since we've been visiting our son and his family. How this ties into building a spiritual legacy, I'm not sure. But I haven't had time to think deep thoughts or write an intelligent post, so this is what you get this week. :-)

10 facts about Finland

1. Finns like fish. Lots of fish.

2. The garbage drop makes dumping your garbage easy. Every level in the old apartment building has it's own chute to the ground floor garbage bin.

3. Although you visit the porcelain factory where they make your favorite set of dishes you've been collecting for years, they aren't any cheaper than when you buy them on Amazon in the U.S.

4. Your summer cottege by the lake (center) has a separate sauna (the little building on the left and really an experience) and a little "house" for chopped wood, and an out-house, which is super cute, clean, and much nicer than expected (both on the right).

5. The cottage is so peaceful you don't want to leave. Luckly the sun sets at 10:00 at night and rises at 2:00 in the morning, though it never gets totally dark. This allows for long hours of soaking in the peacefulness.

6. Nothing opens on Sunday mornings until noon. And it rains a lot.

7. Cartoons are in Finnish, so don't expect to understand anything when watching them with your grandson.

8. Finland has at least one castle, built by the Swedes 6 centuries ago.

9. Like many European countries, they have bridges for livestock to cross over the highway as they move from one pasture to another.

10. Finland has lots of ocean and lakes along with green forests, farmland, many humongous rocks, and an enormous sky. It is beautiful.

Well folks, I've got to catch a plane. I'll be back to a normal routine of posting as soon as I get over my jet leg and tears at saying goodby to my grandson and his parents.Have a great week!Susan
