How to feel good about yourself

First of all ... that little voice isn't you.It may sound like you, but it is not. That voice is actually thoughts being thrown into your mind by someone known as the Accuser—and he is out to destroy your life. When the Accuser is speaking, you will feel one or more of the following emotions:

  • worthless
  • depressed,
  • discouraged,
  • guilty,
  • shamed,
  • inadequate,
  • a failure,
  • hopeless,
  • stupid,
  • unloved,
  • disliked,
  • rejected,
  • blamed,
  • useless,
  • lonely,
  • discarded
  • or condemned.

You will think thoughts along the lines of the following:

  • I’m a failure.
  • This will never change.
  • I’m a mistake.
  • There is no hope for me.
  • No one likes me.
  • It’s not worth it.
  • Why me?

You probably don’t even know you are under the attack of the Accuser – you think it is just yourself! These thoughts aren't originating with you – who wakes up in the morning deciding to think these kinds of things? No one! Not even you.

And it sure isn’t God talking! He doesn't talk like that.

The Accuser is not flesh and blood! The Accuser is not human. He is a type of spirit, and he has been around for a very long time.He goes by the names of

  • Satan
  • Devil
  • Accuser
  • Adversary
  • Angel of Light
  • Father of Lies
  • Lucifer
  • Serpent

and many more that describe his character and activities (see Ephesians 6:12).The Accuser does what his name implies—he accuses.

For the accuser of our brothers is cast down, who accused them before our God day and night . . . . (Revelation 12:10 NIV).For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms (Ephesians 6:12 KJV).

6 POWERFUL steps to STOP the Accuser from making you feel like the scum of the earth

# 1. Don’t agree with the Accuser

Recognize who is speaking It's not you!Recognize that by accusing you ... he is really challenging Christ's work on Calvary that made you beautiful, smart, and free of any bad things that you have done or have been done to you.

# 2. Stand and face the enemy

In your mind ... Put on your spiritual armor

Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand (Ephesians 6:13 KJV).

So ... you have to put your spiritual armor on…. God doesn’t do it for you.Why do you put on your helmet of salvation, your shoes of peace, your breastplate of righteousness, and your belt of truth? So you will be able to stand your ground when evil accusations come your way.

# 3. Overpower the Accuser with the blood of the Lamb

How do you do that?Revelation 12:11 gives us a clue:

And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony.

How do you apply the blood of Jesus?Repent of any sin that you haven't repented of before. If you've already done that, remind the enemy that the Lamb’s blood identifies you as sinless.Charles Simpson put it this way:

In an earthly court you can enter one of 2 kinds of pleads to an accusation: "guilty” or “not guilty.”In heaven’s court you can enter 3 different kinds of pleads:
  •  A plea of “guilty,” but even though that may be true, it is agreeing with the devil.
  •  You can enter a plea of "innocent," but none of us are righteous.
  •  But there is a third plea. You can plead the “blood of Jesus.”

When you answer the accuser by pleading the blood of Jesus, you are saying, “Yes, I was guilty, but there is now no record of my transgression. Jesus blood eradicated it.”

# 4. You continue to overpower the Accuser by the word of your testimony

Tell your Jesus story to the enemy!“Yep, everything you say was once true, but let me tell you why that is no longer who I am."Then tell the enemy the story of how you came to know Christ. You can do this out loud or you can tell your story in your headEither way the devil will hear it, and he hates to hear about Jesus! You overpower the enemy by the blood of the Lamb and the word of your testimony.

# 5. Revelation 12:11 goes on to say ... "and they loved not their lives unto the death."

This is where death to self come's in ... where you have to die to self and live for Christ. So reaffirm your total commitment to Christ.James 4:7 says it this way:

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Submit yourself to God. And Rebuke the enemy!

# 6. Rebuke the Accuser

You’ve been given authority – now use it!Say something along the lines of:

"Satan, I now belong to Jesus and all my past, present and future belongs to Him. You have no authority to accuse me any longer. Any accusations about me will have to be taken up my Owner, Jesus. I resist you and demand that you leave me along."
