How to Move Forward In Life When You Feel Stuck
Do you need to know how to move forward in life when you feel stuck? Have you placed a period in your life where God only meant to place a comma?
Most of us feel trapped at times and wonder if our negative circumstances are ever going to change. We have a hard time believing the following promises of God:
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future" (Jeremiah 29:11 NIV1984).And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose (Romans 8:28 NIV1984)
Although we might know these promises and think we believe them, we usually act like we don't.Our whining and complaining are an indicator that we really don't believe God has our best interests in mind. At least not the interests we feel are important.A lot of our "stuckness" is the result of our way of thinking. Here's how to tell if you are sabotaging God's plans to move you forward:
- Do you tend to focus on the negative in a situation, or can you identify the things that are good?
- Do you use terms like "always" and "never" in your description of your situation?
- Do you blame others for your negative situation?
- Are you focused on the problem or on God's power to prevail?
How to Move Forward in Life
Here are six things you can do to move forward in life:
- Look for what God is doing rather than what he is not doing.
- Identify areas of growth available to you in this situation. Choose one area to focus on each day.
- Discuss God's promises with him, and ask for his help in believing them (see Mark 9:24.)
- Find prayer partners to pray with you about your situation.
- Find three things to be thankful for each day.
- Do what you can each day and leave the rest in God's hands. Go to bed knowing that you were faithful to do what needed to be done.
