What God Says When You Want to Quit

a face like flint

Have you ever told the Lord that you didn't feel qualified for the work he has given you to do? Did you ever tell him that you didn't like your job assignment?I recently came across a little book published in 1941 called His Thoughts Said . . . His Father Said . . . by Amy Carmichael. The 99-cent Goodwill find reflects the unexpressed thoughts of many people, and it holds the answer of the Father to each. Below is one of my favorites for this season of Lent. It's a great attitude adjuster:

Like A Flint

The son said, "I am nothing."His Father said, "Did I ever tell you that you were something?"The son said, "But I do not feel fit for this that is given to me to do."His Father said, "Can you not trust Me to make you fit?"The son said, "But I am not successful."His Father said, "At the end of the day will My word be, 'Come, thou good and successful servant?' If only you will walk humbly with your God it will be, 'Come, thou good and faithful servant.'"The son said, "But I do not care for what I have to do."His Father answered, "At last you have touched the root of the matter. Did your Savior 'care for' Calvary?"Then the Eternal Spirit opened to him those terrible Scriptures, which show Gethsemane and Calvary, till all his paltry 'Buts' were shriveled as withered leaves in the fire. And he saw Him whom he followed as He set His face like a flint; and he was utterly confounded and ashamed.

Now it's your turn: What are you meditating on during this season of Lent? How has it adjusted your attitude?
