How the Lord's Prayer can help you deal with worry

How the Lord’s Prayer Can Free Your Mind of Worry

Do you ever pray without thinking about what you are saying?

Recently, as I was praying the Lord’s Prayer, I was caught up short.

Right after, “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done,” the Lord interrupted me with, “Why don’t you want my will done?”

What???

Of COURSE, I want God’s will done in my life!

Immediately my struggle with a financial worry jumped to the forefront of my mind.

Then the Lord said,

Let me take care of you. I told you that I would. That is my will. Your worry is resisting my will. Give me your worry, and let me do my will on earth as I have decided in heaven.

I stood corrected.

How often do we resist God’s will with our worry without even considering that we might be doing so?

I think we wonder why God hasn’t kept His promises to us when we’re the ones blocking those promises. Concern is one thing—it alerts us to responsible action. But worry is fear.

We allow fear to whittle down the sound mind of faith that God has given us to trust Him (see 2 Timothy 1:7 and 2 Corinthians 4:13).

How the Lord’s Prayer can free your mind of worry

Next time you pray the Lord’s Prayer, pause after, “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”

  1. Ask the Holy Spirit to bring to mind any anxiety you are feeling that indicates you are praying for His will but also resisting it.
  2. Own your fear by naming it. What unsettling situation are you latching onto with worry?
  3. Acknowledge that the situation is in God’s hands by repenting of your worry resistance.
  4. Picture yourself moving out of God’s way so He can do His will in the situation.
  5. Rinse and repeat as needed.

Great! You’ve got out of the way of God’s will.

NOW … watch Him work His will from heaven into your little space on earth.

Oh, by the way … spend more time with Jesus so that your sound mind is the mind of Christ.

Hugs,

Susan

Thank you for this! So resonates and relatable! I did it too. This post is like, the frosting on the cake. We’ve been discussing my attitude and limiting beliefs around money and His providence.

    I love it!
    Great reminder!
I tend to struggle with worry.
My little lady that I’ve been with for 7years died this week and I’m heartbroken besides being out of a job I’m injured so I can’t get another job at this time.
The Lord totally wants me to totally depend on Him. I struggle. This was perfect timing for this message. Thank you

Oh LeAnn, I’m so sorry the woman you cared for died. I know you enjoyed working for her. And to add more grief, you can’t physically go back to work…yikes! I will be praying for you as you put this post into practice.
      Love you, dear friend.
      Hugs,
      Susan
