Soul Nourishment Book Review

Whoop, whoop! Here’s my latest book review. This one is a soul nurturing book. Totally our thing, right? Soooo, here we go:

In her new book, Soul Nourishment: Satisfying Our Deep Longing for God, Deborah Haddix brings her practical wisdom, gleaned from years of experience, to women desiring to grow in the art of soul care.

As soon as I flipped through the book, I knew I was going to love it. Deborah gives you the how to stuff that makes the doing of soul nourishment enjoyable even when faced with the difficulties of life. Applying even a few of her many suggestions can add a new dimension of peace to your faith walk.

The book is divided into three parts beginning with an explanation of your soul, why it requires nourishment, and how to tune into the needs of your soul. Each chapter is short and sweet—not overwhelming.

Part 2 focuses on the ancient spiritual practices of:

  • Prayer
  • Scripture study and meditation
  • Solitude and silence
  • Soul searching
  • Soul friendship
  • Singularity of heart

The bulk of the book, Part Three, consists of ten sections of “Resources for Nourishing the Soul.” It containing various strategies for applying Parts One and Two.

Within these ten sections of Part 3, you’ll find:

  • Practical worksheets
  • Lists of creative ideas
  • Tips
  • Engaging activities
  • Prayers
  • Bible study methods
  • Scripture references
  • Instructions for applying the different materials

This is where the richness of Deborah’s book shines

Deborah has taken all the resources she designed as a Christian life coach, ministry leader, and speaker gives them to us.

She nails it with spiritual material that is organized, well laid out, straightforward, practical, and easy to do.

Her section on Soul Friendships quickly became my favorite. The list of Soul-Building Words is one I’ll draw from for my grandkids as well as close friends. Some are great for text messaging too! And her suggestions of Simple Ways to Show You Care are a resource I’ll repeatedly turn to for fresh ideas in the nurturing of my friendships.

With short chapters and clearly written focus points, Deborah makes soul care enjoyable and always fresh. Her compassion for women seeps through the pages letting us feel her passion for teaching others about walking with Jesus.

Keep this book next to your favorite comfy chair, and you won’t run out of ideas for soul nourishment fitted to your personality and needs. Plus, its wisdom is perfect for sharing with those who seek your input in their lives.
