How to Kick Discouragement In the Butt

Do you ever have one of those mornings where you wake up to a cloud of discouragement hanging over you? You know the kind of morning I’m talkin’ about.

  • Overwhelming details intertwine with hopelessness in your mind and emotions.
  • The thought of getting out of bed to face the day is heavier than the comforter covering your tired body.
  • You’ve prayed. Others have prayed.
  • Yes, you know the verse that says that without faith it is impossible to please God (see Hebrews 11:6).

And if one more person tells you to “just have more faith,” you’ll choke the words back down their throat.

Yep. Been there.

How to kick discouragement in the butt

Timothy had something to say about the times when your faith just isn’t:

If we are faithless (lack of faith), He remains faithful (full of faith), for He cannot disown Himself (2 Timothy 2:13, italics mine).

I love that! God’s got you covered because when your faith is lacking, His isn’t. He’s the one who is full of faith. He’s not going to be anything other than what He is.

So hang in there

Admit your weariness.

Admit that having faith just seems like another huge task on your to-do list. And you don’t have the energy for it.

Then ask God to be the faith that you need.

Remember, the whole reason He brought salvation to you was because you couldn’t bring it to yourself. Don’t you think He can take care of your situation now? Especially knowing that you can’t?

One thing the Spirit does well is to fill an empty faith bucket with His compassion. It transforms into faith. Stand back and let God take over in the faith department … and take care of you.

Now … get out of bed and get crackin’! There’s a new day with new mercies waiting for you (see Lamentations 3:22-24).

I have a tendency to believe that FEAR/discouragement is the fundamental enemy of FAITH, so I constantly and deliberately choose FAITH over FEAR, all through the day when necessary…….especially when I place my head on the pillow, and when I wake every morning!!!
Like getting a head start on the day…….Like “let me be clear about this!!!!”

Even when I’m in a battle, I find it’s the best antidote ‘cos I sense God honours my choice and swoops in with His cavalry…..I KNOW He’s always on my side xx

PS. It’s not always easy, but it always works……..eventually 🙂 I’m kind of like a dog with a bone when it comes to the FAITH V FEAR argument!!!!

    LOVE you guys, Moi xx

“Then ask God to be the faith that you need.”–I need this today as I really have to deal with many unexpected trials lately.

Trials, especially unexpected ones, really drain our faith tank, don’t they Nance? It was such a relief to me when I realized that Jesus was the “faithfilled” One. I could rest in that and let Him fill me up. I’ll be praying for you in your time of unexpected trials.
